HOME – REP TEAM TRYOUT
We recommend that each player comes to as many tryouts as possible. However,
one must attend at least one tryout.
By working hard at the tryout and showing the coaches that he or she has the skills
necessary to play on a rep team.
Some coaches will inform the players at the end of the tryout, while others will phone
home to speak with a parent during the week following the tryout.
Each year many new boys and girls join the Advantage Titans In order to be fair, all
players must earn their spot on a team annually.
The Advantage Rep. Basketball Program offers opportunities toplayers who wish to take their game to the next level. The focus of the rep program will be on skill development and team concepts. What separates the rep program from the house league program is the level of competition that players will confront, and the level of commitment demanded of each player. It is our intent to provide opportunities for participation at the rep level for boys and girls for the following age groups:
The rep program is registered with Basketball Ontario to ensure that all aspects of the program satisfy the guidelines as established by the governing body of amateur basketball in Ontario. Participation in the rep program is open to all players, however, it is contingent upon trying out and making a team. If your son or daughter does not make the Advantage Titans team we have other programs within the Advantage Basketball Association that may be of an option like house league or other training programs. The rep season will run simultaneous to and extend beyond the house league season. It will consist of minimum two weekly practices and participation in several Basketball Ontario sponsored tournaments. All participants in the rep program will be required to pay a fee which will be determined prior to tryouts. The Advantage rep. Basketball program is affiliated with the Ontario Basketball Association (O.B.A.). Players at the Rep. level must demonstrate exceptional skill, athleticism, and strong commitment to the game of basketball.
The Players are selected through a series of open tryouts in late summer and early fall. (Please check our website and social media accounts for updates. There is a fee $25 to tryout for our rep teams. The rep. season runs from the fall to the spring. Teams will play in various leagues decided by the coach and the club and also play other O.B.A affiliated clubs and play in tournaments including the Provincial Championships.
Advantage Rep. Basketball program is intended for athletes who are committed and serious about playing basketball at a competitive level.
Advantage Rep. basketball is a volunteer organization, and every parent of every player is expected to commit to a volunteer effort to help the teams run. This commitment need not be more than a few hours on an occasional basis, but it is essential. Your managers (who re also volunteers!) will outline the volunteer jobs during the first team meeting.
The individual team goals may vary based on the age of the players on the team coach. All teams will focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a competitive environment.
During the season teams will practice two to three times per week for 1.5 to 2 hours. For the teams that do not start their season immediately (high school aged players), they will practice once a week until their season begins. Teams will usually compete in league sessions, several away tournaments on weekends, and the OBA Provincial Championships.
The tournaments and league games usually take place in south- central Ontario. There may also be opportunities to participate in tournaments in Quebec and in the United States.
Tryouts begin in early September. Girls and boys aged 10-14 begin once the team has been picked and end with provincials (end of March beginning of April). Older team usually start and end later
